HotSync download is the process whereby you download programs and applications from the internet onto your desktop PC and then install these programs and applications onto your PDA. You also use the Palm’s HotSync function to synchronize and update your PDA with data from your PC. HotSync download allows you to quickly and simply download software and games from the internet and transfer them to your handheld. Remember that you MUST have the Palm desktop organizer software you received when you purchased your PDA installed on your computer to perform a HotSync (in order to transfer files from your PC to your PDA). A HotSync download operation from the internet may vary in small ways from site to site, but essentially it goes like this: Find the software on the internet that you wish to download and click the download link. Choose Save this file to disk and click OK. In the Save As dialog box, select a location on your computer in which to save the file. Do remember where you have saved it. It is a good idea to create a ‘temp’ directory for this purpose, particularly if you don’t intend to keep the file after you’ve transferred it to your PDA. Remember the name of the file and its extension. The installation will begin. Click Close when the Download Complete dialog box appears. The first stage of the download HotSync process is now complete. If the file you are now going to transfer to your PDA is a .zip file, you will have to decompress it first. If it ends with a .pdb, .exe or .prc, you can perform the transfer straight away. Double-click the file or files you have downloaded. The Install Tool dialog box will appear. Click Done. Put your Palm handheld into its cradle and press the HotSync button. Voila! You have successfully completed a HotSync download.
