The Handspring Treo 300, Sprint PCS’s fourth wireless offering to date, is one of the smallest Palm handhelds yet - but don’t let its Lilliputian size fool you. Not only is this Palm OS -based phone packed with all the features you could ask for from a cell phone or PDA, it has a slicker, sleeker design, and fast, simple navigation. The Treo 300 also boasts a backlit QWERTY keyboard that makes it easy to read and write and a rocker switch for those times when you only have one hand free. But the 300’s biggest selling point is its superior wireless internet performance. It’s a step up from the Treo 270, being CDMA-based rather than relying on GPRS. Operating on the new Sprint 3G network, the Treo 300 gives you data transfer rates up to 5 times faster than from any other wireless PDA on the market. What’s more, your PDA is your ISP. Immediately you subscribe to Sprint’s PCS Vision Service, you’re ready to browse the internet using Handspring’s Blazer browser; there’s no need to re-configure your device. The Treo 300 has infra red and USB ports, a touch screen, 16 MB of memory and a talk time minimum of 2.5 hours. Features include Date Book Plus, PhoneBook, To Do List, Memo Pad, and much more, and you can install thousands of other color-enabled Palm OS applications, including games. A trendy must-have is support for polyphonic ringtones; there are a number of internet sites that sell unique Treo ring tones so you really can stand out from the crowd. There has been some criticism of the fact that the Treo 300 doesn’t allow for voice-activated dialing – but really, you’ll be so busy downloading, you won’t have time to call anyone.
