The Palm III from 3Com is a jazzier version of its predecessor, the Palm Pilot Pro, but with sturdier casing and protective flip cover, a whopping extra 2mb of storage space and an IR port which can be used to beam address book entries, date book entries, and applications, all in a neat 6oz package. The Palm III is cute, neat, practical, easy to use and reasonably priced. No wonder it’s been the recipient of a number of awards from computer publications. Graffiti Power Writing software allows you to write on the Palm III using Graffiti's shorthand alphabet or you can tap numbers and letters on the screen keyboard using a stylus. You can navigate applications and menus using one of the six buttons on the front of the device or by tapping the screen with the stylus. Nothing could be simpler. There are enough applications and programs to suit the needs of most business professionals or home users, and what you feel is lacking, you can download from the internet. The Palm III is PC and Mac compatible, using HotSync technology to exchange data with your desktop computer. The Palm III can be found on the internet, used and refurbished; from as little as $25 – so there’s no excuse for being without a handheld because you think you can’t master the technicalities. This is also a fine device for students and home workers. Support is still available from PalmOne, and there are numerous internet sites where you can find accessories, software and freeware to maintain or upgrade your Palm.
