The Palm emulator is software that emulates, or mimics, the hardware for various models of Palm handhelds, allowing you to create ‘virtual’ handhelds on Windows, Mac or Unix computers. The Palm emulator is very useful to programmers and developers for testing and debugging programs and applications but also allows you to simulate game consoles that wouldn’t otherwise be compatible with your PDA. It’s like having more than one computer on your PDA and a whole lot of new software to play with. Liberty was the first Palm emulator and was designed for use with Gameboy cartridges. To emulate a device, you will need the Palm emulator and a ROM (read only memory), which is basically just a copy of a console or arcade game. The ROM must be compatible with your hardware device. There are many freeware and shareware ROMs available on the internet, and when it comes to Palm emulators for games, you’re spoiled for choice. Bear in mind that when you buy an emulator, you get load-and-play software without any hassles – it works first time – and you get backup and support. But you can also download hundreds of ROMs from the internet and have great fun trying out new games you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to play on your handheld, like Nintendo and Atari, as well as the old classics, like Space Invaders, Galaxians, etc. If you want to build your own copy of Palm emulator you will need CodeWarrior Pro 7.0 for the Mac OS, and Visual C++ 6.0 for Windows.
