The Sony Clie SJ22, billed as the replacement for the monochrome SJ20, breaks very little new ground. Thank goodness. Because its predecessor was pretty nifty little phone for the price it was at. But the new Sony Clie SJ22 has arguably the best screen of any entry-level PDA, apart from the SJ30, which is discontinued, and it's cheaper than the SJ30. Reviewers again and again have described the color screen as 'awesome' quality. Quite a feat for Sony? Or nothing less than we expect from this giant in the PDA market? Other than that, the Sony Clie SJ22 is very much like the SJ30. It's a compact, square-shaped phone - almost bullish. A man's phone, dare I say? Good-bye to the blue-tinged screen, thank goodness and hello a little added brightness. It weighs in at 4.9 ounces and the battery life is rated at 12 days. It runs Palm OS Version 4.1. The only real disappointment in the Sony SJ22 is that Docs to Go has been scuttled. Bearing in mind that the Sony Clie SJ22 is a budget model, it comes with all the necessary software, but there might be a few things you'd like to add on at a later stage, like MP3 player, Word or Excel, although you can view .doc and .xls files through the Picsel Viewer. Price-wise, the Sony Clie SJ22 should be given serious consideration by anyone on a budget. It is not just any entry-level phone. Sony Clie SJ22's have earned rave reviews from their inception, due to Sony's high quality and understanding of the PDA market.
