With little effort it is possible to download many free pocket pc programs and probably the easiest way is to type 'free pocket pc software' into your favorite search engine. Free software can easily be downloaded from the Web, but before you go out and try the programs, here are some things to keep in mind. Most software including Pocket PC can be categorized into three types: Freeware, Shareware, and Licensed software. Freeware is software that you can download and use at no cost, where as shareware is software that usually has a certain usage or time limit. After that limit is reached certain features or even the entire program will be deactivated. The idea behind this is that if the user still finds the program useful, then they will be prompted to purchase it. Many PocketPC programs are shareware, giving you the advantage of a try before you by scenario. PPC software that requires a license is usually associated with a cost and if you want to use the program you will have to pay for it. Even though there is a lot of freely available software for the PocketPC, one thing to keep in mind is that free software can sometime contain spyware or adware. Often a programmer will give programs away for free, but will expect to receive revenue from other sources such as spy or adware. You should note that some programmers will be reluctant to support their software and they release the software on an as is basis.
