If you are looking to buy a handheld PDA then the choices can be overwhelming. There are many handheld computers out there and finding the right one can be difficult. When looking for a handheld PDA the first question you should ask yourself is - do I want a Palm or Windows based operating system? This should help you decide between a Palm Pilot (PalmOne) and a Pocket PC PDA.
Arguably, the Palm operating system is said to be user-friendlier, and while used by both novice and experts, the Palm is an easier for the novice user to start on. In saying that though, if you have experience with the Windows PC operating system then a Pocket PC handheld computer will be more familiar to you. Here are some further points to consider when looking for a handheld PDA. - Color or monotone display?
- Do you need Internet Access? If so does it have to be wireless?
- Do you need a board keyboard, for quicker typing?
- Do you need compatibility for synchronization with Windows or Macintosh PC computers?
- Is the battery rechargeable and how long will it last? Some hand held computers don't take rechargeable batteries.
- Dimensions and weight? Will you want to place the hand held in your pocket?
- The ability to add extra memory and hardware add-ons, such as GPS unit.
- Do you need sound recording and sound playback?
- Do you need to swap data and files with your colleagues? Then you should get a similar handheld PDA and that is running on the same operating system.
