HotSync data to backup your Palm Pilot.

HotSync is the name that Palm has given to the method of linking your desktop, laptop or computer to your Palm Pilot. Why do you HotSync? To synchronize and backup data between your computer and your Palm Pilot.

The various methods of synchronizing data are done as follows: Universal Serial Bus (USB), serial cable, Infrared or wireless connection. To use Infrared and wireless HotSync connections both the Palm Pilot and the computer need to be wireless enabled. The advantage to using wireless is that you no longer need a cradle or cables; as long as you are with in range you can synchronize data.

In the olden days to get information between two computers, we used diskettes. Here the diskette is the intermediary device. An advantage of the HotSync is that data transfer can be done directly, without the need for an intermediary device, such as a disk.

Generally you will HotSync most applications and programs that you want to load on your Palm. Programs such as games, street maps, databases, accounting software etc and don't forget, HotSyncing will also backup data on your Palm Pilot.
